This exhibition of wood sculptures by Merijn Hos is part of Kunsthall Stavanger's Art for Kids program. As part of the exhibition, Hos will hold a workshop for kids where they will paint their own wooden sculptures. Hos' first collection of wood sculptures was produced for the Stedelijk Museum Kampen in the Netherlands in 2012. Since then, they have been exhibited at Design Museum Helsinki and at galleries in New York, Dusseldorf, and Malmø. The wood sculptures consist of 262 unique sculptures varying in sizes between 5 and 14 inches. Inspired by Art Brut and Folk Art, Hos began the creation process by drawing objects that appear frequently in his work as an illustrator; plants, faces and pottery, which he then narrowed down to the essence of their shape and painted using about 24 colours and a uniform brush size.

Merijn Hos is an illustrator based in Utrecht, Netherlands, who works on both commercial projects and his own artworks. His work is often joyful, with the intention to make people smile.
