Redskapsgymnastik/Obstacle (The Toad), 2013

"A giant toad is trying to get itself through the different stations of an obstacle course in a gymnasium. The toad participated in the show Alla måste duscha (Everyone has to shower) by Sofia Hultin. Then there was a whole line up of work-out dressed people doing the obstacle course. The toad functioned as a stopper that everybody had to wait for, and soon the line up was behind it.

"Dressed in a self-made fir cone costume I walk from north to south, allowing spruce cone seeds made of thin brown paper fall to the ground along my path. Popular scientific literature talks about how the Norweigan sprouce came wandering in from the north when the ice sheet withdrew from the Nordic countries 10000 years ago. The spruce "came" at a certain speed, infinitely slow, but still."

The video is from the first blooming, June 8 and 9, 2012, in a small municipal greenhouse in Kalmar, a middle sized city in Sweden where I lived until I was 19. The gardener and teacher Cecilia Kilbride hosted the public event, realised in collaboration with Kalmar Konstmuseum / Art Line.

Ingela Ihrman (Kalmar, Sweden) lives and works in Malmö. Her work is sparked by the strong emotions of everyday life and a desire to understand, question or express certain aspects of being alive, social and human. It is particularly the pleasures and pain that come with co-existence, autonomy, loneliness and longing for belonging that intrigues her. Her practice includes sculpture, performance, video and writing as well as collaborations within the fields of science, theater and dance. She graduated from Konstfack, Stockholm 2012.
